MIDRIFF ISLANDS
Our trips start in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico, located about 240 miles south of San Diego, California. The ERIK and ANDREA LYNN depart on Saturday afternoon. We provide secured parking for your vehicle, as well as transportation to the dock. The ANDREA LYNN will also depart out of Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point), about 3 hours south of Phoenix, Arizona, on alternating weeks. Please call to verify which port it will be sailing from for any particular week.
After departure, and enjoying a relaxing 20 hour cruise, you will arrive at the beautiful Midriff Islands. Serene and untouched, this chain of several islands runs south down the Sea of Cortez. We will then unload the pangas from the mothership, and on Sunday morning, you will be fishing one of the many areas of the surrounding islands.
During the months of May through October, Dorado flourish, the waters are alive with Yellowtail, and giant Grouper and Black Sea Bass lurk beneath. Cabrilla also abound, and when you get them home will be the best fish tacos you’ve ever tasted. Our guides have lifelong fishing experience in these waters, and they know almost every inch we travel. They will be able to provide an array of suggestions as to what type of equipment you will need, as well as finding the perfect spot for the fishing you've been longing for.
The Midriff Islands, approximately 250 miles south of San Felipe, are inhabited with different species of fish. For example, San Esteban Island and the southern part of San Lorenzo Island are typically filled with Yellowtail. Punta San Francisquito is where our customers enjoy night fishing for giant Humboldt Squid as well as bait. At Punta Diablo (east side of Angel de la Guarda Island) is a great spot for Pargo and Cabrilla. Puerto Refugio (the northern part of Angel de la Guarda Island) is a perfect location for Cabrilla, Yellowtail, and White Seabass.
MAGDELANA BAY
From November through January, the fishing adventures head south to Bahia Magdalena. A two-hour flight from San Diego, this beautiful cove off the Pacific Ocean offers a variety of sportfishing that will amaze the most seasoned anglers. Fishing will be concentrated at the Thetis and Potato Banks, as well as inside Magdalena Bay and Bahia St. Maria. The mangroves will also provide an awesome fishing experience. You can expect to catch Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Yellowtail, Dorado, possibly Mako shark and Marlin, as well as Halibut and Snook.
You will fly into La Paz, Baja California, Mexico, arriving on Saturday afternoon. We will pick you up in our own bus and take you to Magdalena Bay and the Port of San Carlos. As you approach Puerto San Carlos you will see nests in the top of the power poles where sea eagles can be seen during the winter months. You will arrive at the port and load your gear on board. As soon as everyone is loaded, the ANDREA LYNN will depart and head out to the fishing grounds. You will be fishing first thing Sunday morning, either on the banks or in the Bay. At the end of your trip your guide will fillet and package your catch for you to take home. We will pick you up from the docks early Saturday morning and bus you back to the airport in La Paz. We suggest 2-3 ice chests (no larger than 75 quarts) and large zip-lock bags. Bring old clothes to fish in that you can leave behind. Bedding will be provided for you in your air-conditioned room (we suggest bringing a small blanket if you are sensitive to air-conditioning).
PUERTO VALLARTA
The ANDREA LYNN heads even farther south for the months of February through April as we sail the beautiful water off of Puerto Vallarta. While friends and family deal with the cold winter weather back home, you will be fishing in a panga in swim gear and sandals, sun beating down in 75 degree weather, and fighting a stubborn Sailfish or Dorado. A variety of other species abound during these months, like Jack Crevalle, large Pargo and Grouper, Bonita, Roosterfish, and many more. Come experience Mexico at its finest, and bring home memories to share. Sail on the ANDREA LYNN in Puerto Vallarta.
